Glen Nelson
Glen Nelson's set-up during the In The House recording sessions at Gary Wright's studio in California. The gear: Oberheim OBX-A, (2) OB-1, DMX drum machine, DSX Sequencer & (2) Roland Space Echo.
THEN: Glen used an Oberhiem OB-xa and two OB-1's for much of his time in IIV. When he first joined he was using an ARP 2600, which was replaced by an ARP Oddesy and then theOB-1. For a brief time he used a Rhodes Chroma. Later he used a Yamaha DX7. For a very short time, he used a Sequential Circuits Prophet-5. Gary Smith    
THEN: used a Moog Source and two Sequential Circuits Pro-1's. He briefly used a Moog Memorymoog, which did the sequencer part in Lust For Love. The Source and Pro-1's were triggered from the TR-808 and DMX drum machines via a custom built conversion box. After The Spell, Gary used a Roland S-50 sampling keyboard for all synth bass parts. On record, almost every keyboard owned or borrowed was used for the bass synth parts.
  NOW: Moog Voyager & a Fender Zone bass . Ampeg amplifier w/ a 2 x 12" speaker cabinet & 1 x 15" speaker cabinet.

 

Joe Vizvary    
THEN: Joe played a Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 and Yamaha SS-30 String Ensemble. On the earlier records and live, he also used an ARP Pro Soloist II. These were run through a Lexicon PCM 41 and a Korg SDD-1000. After Glen left the band, Joe replaced the SS-30 with a Roland Alpha-Juno 2 midied to a Roland MC-500 sequencer which also ran a Roland TR-707 drum machine. After The Spell , Joe replaced the Prophet with a Roland D-50 and added a Roland S-550 sampler. Joe also used a variety of other keyboards in the studio. 2002


 

2002 LIVE: Joe used a Nord Lead 2, Roland Alpha Juno 2 and S-330 sampler. Midi control and sequences were run by a Roland MC-500 micorcomposer and a JLCooper MSB+ midi patchbay. Effects used were Lexicon pcm 41 digital delay, Korg Sdd1000 digital delay, and Alesis midiverb II.

2004 LIVE: Roland Alpha Juno 2, Yamaha SS-30 String ensemble, Arp Pro-soloist II, Casio CTK-691, Micro Korg. Sequences, samples and loops were run by a Macintosh G5 and Digidesign Digi 002 running ProTools LE, Reason, Ableton Live, and Pro53 Prophet V VST plug-in.

 

Ed Shaw    
THEN: Guitar - Fender Stratocaster. Originally a '66 but was heavily modified. Custom rosewood big extra fret neck made by Paul Iverson at Richard's Rare Guitars (Paul played Bass with Strange Advance for some time). Floyd Rose Locking Tailpiece. Updgraded pegs

Amp - Roland JC120 modified to provide a line level stereo effects loop. Effects - ProCo Rat Distortion Pedal, Boss Digital Delay Rack, MXR Red Compressor, Ebow. Recording - Teak A3440 four track tape recorder with additional DBX Unit


  NOW: Guitar(s) - Line6 Variax 700 Tremolo, Parker MIDI Fly with a modified tone pot, Fender Stratocaster (same as above, but now with a Schecter body). Amp - Line6 VettaII Combo. Effects - All in the amp, Line6 PodXT for portability and GuitarPort access, Ebow. Recording - DigiDesign MBox2, Protools 7 LE

 

Derrick Gyles    
THEN: Milestone drums with 3 Roto Toms across the front, Roland Octa Pad on the left. Earlier, Derrick used Simmons electronic drums, but then changed over to Roland.

 


  NOW: A new Yamaha kit with retro silver sparkle shells: 20x18 kick (maple), 8x8 tom (birch), 10x8 tom (birch), 14 floor (birch), 5 inch custom snare, Roland TD 10, with pads on the side.

 

Don Gordon  
THEN: Don started with a Prophet -5 and a Yamaha CS-40 duophonic synthesizer. Later he used only the Prophet on stage.

Kevin Crompton    
THEN: Kevin started with a Tama drum set with Octabons and Syndrums. He later used a Roland TR-808, Pearl Syncussion, and Simmons SDS-V electonic drums.

 


  NOW: My setup now is always changing as I use alot of virtual stuff now. Logic 7.0 , Ableton Live 5, Native Intruments Komplete, is really my basic set, and then augmented by a plethora of original instruments both analog and digital 808/909 /Sp1200 /studio 440, the entire Roland/Korg analog classics, Serge Modular, Arp 2600/2500 ,Moog, Sequential Circuits, Studio Elctronics, KRK, Manley/Avalon/Eventide/Lexicon FX,Access/Nord Micro modular/Ayotte Drums.
